Теодор:

Beethoven was not a difficult person. It was a difficult time. Every person in difficult time becomes a difficult person. How to be easy with all this talent in between stupid people? Can you imagine that? How he suffered, my God. With all his talent to be surrounded by a bunch of untalented, rude people that rule the world.

The slow movement is so painful for me. My God. To have a hope where there is no hope at all. Where there is darkness and there is no hope to bring the light there.

You need a kind of revelation, a kind of apocalypses, to get enter this space. It is not so easy.

If somebody comes from another planet and says, “What is the human civilization?” What can you say? It’s better to play the 9th Symphony. It is an evidence of human civilization. It is like the Parthenon. A non-monumental monument.
